Why does the calculator show my real hourly rate?
Because the number that decides whether the work is worth doing is total money divided by total hours, including the build. A $4,000 day that took 30 hours to prepare is a $133 hour.
That figure is also the argument for reusable material: the second delivery of the same session carries almost no prep, which is where the margin lives.
Should I quote a range or a number?
A number, with what it includes written under it. Ranges invite negotiation from the bottom, and a buyer who has to guess which end applies to them usually assumes the low end and is disappointed either way.
